Founding of House Arryn and the Kingdom of Mountain and Vale

Benedict was the only child of Oberon and his first wife, Cymnea. There are some legends referring to two brothers of Benedict, but if they existed, their names and descendants are lost to the mists of time.

Benedict married three times and also sired a number of bastards:

  • Margaery
  • Roslin
  • Ashara

Benedict ruled from his seat at the Eyrie for less than a hundred years before abdicating the throne to his eldest son, Barristan Arryn. Benedict's other children all founded their own Lesser Houses, and Barristan's children, nieces, and nephews founded additional Lesser Houses. It is said that Benedict's three wives were sisters, and that the Three Sisters are named from them. House Sunderland and its tributary houses are said to be descended from the eldest daughters of each of Benedict's three marriages.

Current situation

The current King of Mountain and Vale is King Harrold Arryn. His Queen is a Corbray. King Harrold's father died young, elevating his only son to the throne at age 20. King Harrold and his Queen have been married about a dozen years (they married after he was elevated to the throne), and have only young children at the present time.

An unusual withering has affected the crops in the Vale, causing some concern among the inhabitants of this Kingdom. Though it is summer at present, they worry that this may be the beginning of a famine. If this famine is followed soon after by autumn, it will mean a very hard winter ahead for them.
